BOISE AIRPORT OPTICAL ILLUSION

While I was waiting the other day for a friend to arrive I noticed something that I not only found odd, I also couldn't believe that it is coincidental. The pattern in the carpet in the waiting area and upstairs at the Boise airport has lines that makes it look like it is uneven like waves or ruts. I included the video above to illustrate my point. Do you see it??? It seems just too perfect not to be on purpose. Who did this? Who picks the carpet and did they pick it for a reason?? I'm perplexed and entertained at the same time. So, next time you are picking someone up at the airport and have a minute to kill, close one eye, squat down and enjoy the "Waves in the carpet"

Good Morning Boise

Good Morning! As I write my first update to my blog in some time I'm in the WILD 101 studio looking out as the sun comes over the mountains in the east and I feel lucky to be here. The people I've met here are so warm and friendly and welcoming I immediately felt at home. I was standing in my driveway last night and all I could hear was the wind rustling the leaves and I looked up at the sky that seemed to curve upward as If I was looking thru a fisheye lens. I had a great friday night with Complex over at Montego Bay and everyone seemed to be dancing their ass off and having fun! Saturday, I went with Mikey to Lucky Peak for some wakeboarding and about 5 minutes away from the upper dam we come to a shuddering halt right in the water. We had hit a rocky sandbar and let me tell you coming to a quick stop like that in a wakeboard boat like that is quite a shock. So we limped into the launch at about 2mph. It was actually really relaxing. The warm breeze, fun music and aftenoon light filtering across the horizon made for what seemed like a pleasure cruise. Relaxing to say the least. Upon exiting the water we were pleased to discover that the only damage was the prop. Its a miracle, because the sound that boat made would make you think the bottom was shredded off that boat.(see before and after photo below) So that was my weekend. I wanted to take a moment after some time to reflect and say a sincere thank you to the people of San Diego that have been a part of my public life, daily on the radio. I enjoyed so much interacting and goofing around and hearing about your lives and sharing mine with you! It was great fun to make a good living talking on a microphone! YO BOY! I NEED A CAAAB!!!

I know that a lot of people like to use puns to name their businesses. Hair salons especially love to do this. You know, stuff like,"Shear Genius" or,"A Cut Above". You get the point! Thennnn there is a trend where, I think, people move here and open a business where they add what they think is a popular adjective to whatever they are selling and that's the name of their place,i.e. "Extreme Pita." I mean seriously, can a pita really ever be considered extreme?? Then there's this (see above photo) I saw this on the 8 freeway going west. I want to be in the brainstorming session for this business. Who decided that the "HOMEBOY" segment of cab customer's were repelled by words like,"YELLOW" and "CHECKER"?? I called the number and they deny this company exists but would be willing to send me a cab! I was like,"YO WHAT"S UP WITH DAT!!!

Well hello! I thought I'd check in while on vacation so I took a quick drive into town (Kernville) and am sitting here at the local coffee shop. They have a computer I can use as internet is scarce here. It's nice to be in an area that doesn't have all the modern conveniences. I have spent my time out on gorgeous Lake Isabella. (see above pic) I have been out boating with Misty and we find a nice sandy little spit or jetty to set up a shade and just swim and read.

I have been writing some new "Who's your Daddy" clues so get ready when I am back it's ON!!!!! Other than that, I have been working out in the alpine air. Boy the elevation really takes a toll! I watched THE DARK NIGHT the other day. I thought it was just a little too long and overcomplicated. I was confused for a minute or two but all in all it was an 8 for me. The weather has been spectacular. Cool nights and sunny days in the 90's. Perfect for being on the lake. The summer has kind of passed so the lake has few if any boaters or jet skiers and it's so peaceful. I wish you all could be here. There's plenty of room. Well Jen and I are back on Monday with stories and games and fun and dirt and celeb homes and we will be looking forward to it. So for now that's it from the Southern Sierras. SOAP DISH CONTROVERSIAL

SO Misty and I are having both standing our ground over the above! It is what I have created by taking my old scraps of soap and instead of throwing them away I crush them together to form a new bar? Misty says it looks like a turd, but I know that its just soap so why waste it? I mean if I had thrown away these scraps I would have thrown away a whole bar of soap, right??? C'mon I need some backup on this one! Soap is soap no matter what the sahpe. BTW the black part is from an oatmeal face scrub bar I purchased from Sephora. Waste not Want not!!!!

MY FIRST (and last) PEDICURE!

Well, I received my first pedicure today. I decided on it for two reasons, !. I felt my nail clippers in the shower technique could be improved upon. and more importantly 2. Misty had a free coupon. I ventured into a world that promised happiness for my nails and presented my coupon. I was treated to a nice enough pedicure (I guess) I don't know what to base it on? I was presented with a special treat (see above) special tropical flowers. I could have done without. I didn't really go for the experience honestly. All in all, after inspection I have surmised that 1. I am pretty good with mynail clippers in the shower technique and 2. I don't really care to have someone else rub my feet in public. So once is good for me thank you. Happy nails yes but they weren't that unhappy to begin with!

Double Dipped Dog Doo Dessert....

So Wed night Misty says that she would like to get a dipped soft serve cone on the way home. Okay, easy enough! We make a small detour to the nearest purveyor of drive thru ice cream and place our order. The order taker seemed confused by this daunting task and let us know that he would perform the calculus it takes to figure out the cost and tell us at the second window. We pull up to see a small guy in his early twenties, headset and stained shirt in place, working the soft serve machine. By working, I mean WORKING! I guess I had never taken the time to ponder what amazing feat of manual dexterity it is to create this work of art. Our little helper, we'll call him Paco, (cause that's what his name tag said), was on his second try and having no luck. He rather forcefully tossed the second fiasco into the trash and started on the third cone. Little beads of sweat appeared in his furrowed brow as he tried to ever so slightly work the push/pull motion that gives the soft serve it's trademark arab palace roof look! I turned to Misty and said,"I don't think this is gonna be quite what you expected..."
Boy was I right!!! Three tries is all you get in this drive thru and Paco had given up! He took his last attempt, dipped it twice and handed us a regular cone topped with what looked like one of those fake dog turds you can buy at a store like Spencer Gifts! I mean really this could've easily been the mold for the latest model. I quietly paid my $1.63 and nodded farewell to a sheepish Paco and drove ten feet before I burst out laughing! I couldn't help but look at Misty, who was taking in this disaster from every angle, deciding where to begin her attack if at all and exclaim, "You wanted it! Now,....EAT YOUR POOP!" Childish I know but worth the laughter. Thanks Paco. Better luck next time man!

First get 50 out of the way.....

If there is one thing I have done consistently it's overcommit myself to things I aspire to do and be. I have done just that by committing myself to riding in the Tour De Palm Springs on Feb 9th. It is a 100 mile bike ride thru the the length and breadth of the Coachella valley. Being that I have never been on my bike for more than 50 miles(and that was long ago) and not much since, It's no surprise that I am getting a bit nervous about this upcoming feat. I have invited a friend whom I thought had a passing interest in biking to join me all the way from Austin, Texas. He informs me that he is not only a competitive rider but is well aquainted with no other than one Lance Armstrong uber cyclist himeself. Are you starting to see my dilemma here. I have overcommitted myself to a chore with more than qualified company. Soooo, to get ready I decided to do a tune up ride. Just a quick 50 miles this sunday following the first part of the course.......No prob right???

I Started on my way out of town brimming with oatmeal and energy drink in my belly and an optimistic mind as I am up before the sunrise hits the ground.....

Nobody up yet as I begin my sojurn into the wide open desert. It's a crisp 45 degrees and quiet. All I can hear is the shuck and jive of my chain making it's way round the sprockets and the soft hush plump of my tires advancing up the wrinkled asphalt....

Not much traffic as I head north towards open desert. I love the dry air...

15 miles out of town. I am on a freeeway frontage road now. Just getting into a rythym and warmed up. The sun has risen on the valley floor and I can hear the continuous, swoosh,swoosh of the windmills as the generators below hum from the electricity flowing through them. I feel good. Not much fatigue. I am drinking and eating while I ride. I will be turning north soon and then east up towards the foothills of the Joshua Tree Monument that makes up the northern border for much of the Coachella valley.

30 miles

I am now feeling fatigue. Not in my lungs or heart but my legs are burning pretty good. Most of the ride has been up hill as I have ascended 1200 feet over these past 15 miles. I am halfway through my food and drink. Here is a picture looking west down the road I have just traveled and out in the distance the foothills of the mountains where I started.

31 miles

Relief! Finally! As I begin a long descent down this road into the valley floor to begin the homestretch ride! Oh, by the way, NOTE TO SELF: Load more songs on your little I-POD. I have been through this playlist like ten times and it's wearing a bit thin!

36 miles

Whew, just down through this canyon and back onto the valley floor. I am really starting to feel a constant burning in my hamstrings and lower back! I don't know what made me think I could ride 100 MILES!

40 miles

Well just ten more miles back to the base of the mountains in the distance here. It seems like a lot further than that. Notice the high quality bike lane here on the county roads. Nice! I find myself riding standing up and sitting down to give my back and legs some stretch and relief. I have just made a quick pit stop (If you know what I mean) in a small grove of tamarisk trees off of the roadside. The only thing for miles that provided any kind of privacy. Honestly, I'd vote for Gary Coleman right now if he rolled up and offered me a ride. I am really gonna have to train If I think I am doing 100 miles in three weeks! I stop up about a mile further to refuel with some water and energy gels(which, by the way, taste like the gooey filling in a Hostess Apple Pie).

49 miles

Well after navigating some rather tight traffic and a few close calls I am on the last mile. Up ahead at the end of this side street sits my family's home in Palm Springs. Strangely, my lungs and heart are calm. Not really fatigued at all. On the other hand, my legs feel like they are being bitten by a thousand tiny ants. My hamstrings have put in for vacation and my lower back is achey brakey! At this point it feels better to just pedal slowly without stopping becuase once I do I really feel uncomfortable and my legs feel a bit swollen.
Side note, this lady in the picture didn't like some bearded freak taking a picture, which I am sure she thought was of HER and her expression as I rode by told me so! Must keep going!

50 miles

HOME SWEET HOME!!! I made it! 50 miles under my belt! I am sore and after I get off of the bike need to walk around a bit to regain normal feeling in my legs! I can't wait to get a shower and some FOOD! Ten minutes later I am convincing myself that I could go another 50 but in the back of my mind the senisble Rick is saying,"Yeah RIGHT! You better get training!" HaHa! So this week it's up early and on the bike. I need to let my legs get used to the feel of that constant burn over a much longer period. If you are a cyclist or trainer or whatever, and have some advice, I am ALL ears! Please comment and share with me anything you think I might need to do to build my endurance! Three weeks till 100!!!!!!

I'm smiling now but on Feb 9th that will be a grimace of pain for sure. I am riding in the TOUR DE PALM SPRINGS 100mile bike ride. I will start bloggin my inadequate training regimen and look forward to your advice, warnings and encouragement. Check here for updates and please leave comments.
